Now it is my turn to talk about myself. I don’t even know where to start. I have found that my life path goes the other way around rather than the way it should be.

OK! This is me. I’ve grown up in China. Like most of the kids in China, I didn’t have much chance to develop my interest or habit outside of school when I was young. All of the kids had the same goal, which is to go to a better college and find a better job. That seems the only and final destination for all of us. The whole childhood has been planned like setting up a GPS navigation, we were directly heading to the setted destination. We didn't have to think where it would be because “we will be getting there eventually”.

Obviously, studying in Australia was a part of journey.

Making a long story short, I have finished my Commerce in Finance degree at Macquarie University and got the job offer from Citi Bank. It didn’t go that smoothly in the years between, but I finally got it and I was super excited. I had arrivied my destination! However the exciting life didn't last long, I started to get bored and slowly seen my future in next 30 years. Then I had realised how scary if you could see the certainty of future. There wouldn't be anything excited or anything looking forward.

I need to find my way out and choose where I’m going next. I want to pursue a different and more exciting challenge and that is why I chose to study Commercial Interior Design at Billy Blue. I just want to go to my unknown future without people telling me where I should go. This journey might be pivoting, that is ok, this could make me a stronger explorer.

Here I am, start my adventure and ready to face my next challenge.

Hi guys,

My name is Yen and I am one part of the Fable Studio Co Team. We thought it'd be nice for you to get to know more about us personally so you can understand how we became Fable Studio Co.

I’d like to share with you a little story about my beginning as a child.

When I turned 5-6 years old was around the time I could first pick up a pencil and draw ‘cool things’.

I vividly remember everyone around me was drawing scribbles and I had already developed the ability to draw a realistic human being and a realistic home.

Growing up I fast learnt being my own person and making my own decisions would be the destiny of my childhood as my parents were busy working all the time. I spent the majority of my time creating, drawing, singing, and making amateur films in my bedroom.

My bedroom became a sanctuary to create, and I eventually sold paintings and had some of my work hung in a public theatre in Brisbane.

I am a passionate film enthusiast that sparked interest in travel and from this I discovered a growing creation existing outside my bedroom and so I took the leap to leave the nest and study Commercial Interior Design in Sydney.

Nature, photography and textiles inspire a lot of my work to this day. It’s important to create and experiment with no just one medium. Four years ago I created my first rice paper series ‘Vietnam’. The Vietnamese Rice Fields inspired this work and by using watercolours on real rice paper, I was able to express the vivid texture and colours that can be seen.

Heritage will continue a distinct part of my artwork. The Sketch Series ‘Sapa’ made on black paper and white pencil. I wanted to create a series of portrait drawings showing the real people from the rural Vietnamese community.

I feel very humble to have this opportunity to embark on an entreneurship journey with Wendy where we can inspire and create new designs for others and celebrate stories with new friends and partners.

I love to create and feel very lucky I can share this creativity and passion with others for a very long time.

How we met...

Yen and I first met at college. Both of us were studying Commercial Interior Design at Billy Blue College of Design. We were attending the same class Frameworks of Design on Tuesday morning. The class required each student to create a new product base on the current technologies and creations, plus we have to design the showcase for the product. Well, we have to eventually invent a THING. To make sure we were on the right direction, the tutor led us to talk about our habits or something we really loved. I still remember that Yen said she loves to paint and sold her painting on facebook. That was impressive! Someone could actually buy your painting?! Wow!

Along these two and half years, everybody in the class has built their own style. Yen’s style is total opposite from mine. We are deciding to show some of our works on next two blog entries, just so you can see how different we are!

I like simplicity and she is more detailed; I like solid concrete and she more towards the soft textile; I like black and white and she won’t give up on rainbows. We compliment each other’s advantages. I guess that is what a partner is meant to be.

Fable

When Yen brought the name to me, my first impression was it's 'ADORABLE.' After she explained that fable means a short story, I immediately fell in love with this adorable name. What a name! A story! Who doesn't love stories! So many possibilities were spinning around in my head. We could help people tell their stories through our designs or we could create our stories through their stories. I love it!

It is easy when you say “Okay! Let’s do it”, but it is hard to make a commitment. Since both of us have passion to create a beautiful moment and both of us have our own design styles and stories, the business part comes naturally when things are meant to be.

It makes who we are today. Planning how to get into the industry and how to make us different is a big challenge for us so we would like to thank to all of our lovely friends who are continually supporting us! Thanks to them we are becoming more confident in this business.

Here we come, the unknown and exciting future.

Today is an exciting post about why we chose 'Fable' as our company name.

Both Wendy and myself love all things tales. We both grew up developing an appreciation for old myths and fables.

The best way to describe 'Fable' is a myth or type of story usually containing a moral lesson.

Rich story-telling tradition can be found in every country and religion.

Fables are incredibly powerful, as they show the real power behind mesmerizing storytelling and have a real impact in teaching both children and adults the basic truth in life and the meaning of right from wrong.

Designers are storytellers who practice this artform as they produce a narrative for their work. This inspired narrative is a shared process from beginning to the end with their client.

Designing a space from scratch requires understanding the client's wants and needs.

The next step would be sourcing ideas and materials that would recreate or tell their story or the feeling they are after on their special day.

Here at Fable Studio Co, we work together in translating your ideas into real life moments creating spaces that can be celebrated in and not to be forgotten!

This is an exciting year and we are super excited to be part of the journey with you!
